The Challenge

Our client, a leading global banking group, needed to assess its geographical options as part of a real estate review and future hiring planning.

The group was seeking to recalibrate the balance of functions across its global operations in the most optimal way to access the talent it needs.

As part of the bank’s assessment it wanted to understand the location and scale of its competitors operations across nine key functions, as well as gain an understanding of the wider financial services sector talent pool.

The nine key functions, across which the bank wanted to build an understanding of key talent pools, were:

HR, Legal, Audit, Compliance, Risk, Finance,
Operations, Technology and Front Office.

The client was particularly interested in exploring talent pools for these functions across the EMEA and Asia regions.

Locating and assessing competitor presence across the regions was a key requirement as these organisations hold the most relevant talent in terms of skills and experience.

The stakeholder group, consisting of senior strategy, HR and talent executives required talent pool data, analysis and recommendations to aid their planning.

Our Solution

Parkhouse Bell developed a wide-ranging research strategy for each function of interest and deployed its suite of digital tools and a team of experienced talent insight professionals to begin a comprehensive assessment to identify key competitor hubs across the EMEA and APAC regions.

The research spanned more than 100 cities across 46 countries
to uncover the largest talent pools and the distribution of these pools across the bank’s competitors.

Using this data to identify the key talent hubs across the regions, Parkhouse Bell then focused in on the key locations to gather salary data, average tenure data, talent demand indicators and role/skill specialisms present for each of the nine key functions.

Our project teams analysed in excess of 10,000 data points to provide the client with three expertly researched reports.

The three reports detailed:

– Key high/low cost locations for each function
– A breakdown of competitors teams
– Location comparisons with regard to size of Talent pools and cost of talent

Across the functions, Phase 1 provided a global assessment of key talent hubs, competitor locations and talent cost comparisons.

Phase 2 provided a key country assessment of competitor sites, talent costs and the wider financial services sector talent pool.

Phase 3 provided an analysis of the talent pool characteristics within a commutable distance of the bank’s existing sites in a key European country.

To support the analysis and recommendations within the reports, Parkhouse Bell presented the data to the bank’s key stakeholder team, providing a key findings and recommendations and Q&A session.

The Outcome

Within 5 weeks, Parkhouse Bell provided the client with a detailed analysis of the bank’s geographic options for nine functions across key global regions.

The client was able to easily integrate this talent data analysis into its real estate and talent planning review to ensure that evidence relating to talent availability and costs was fed into its decision-making.

The client will now seek to distribute some functions across a range of geographies to take advantage of the various strengths uncovered within the analysis.
